Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent to the outside company that supplies that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Macon County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be kept long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Ordinary server and analytics logs can collect technical facts when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages opened and the length of the visit
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help produce grouped traffic measures, such as popular pages and common exit points. A browser can reject or clear cookies, although a blocked cookie may change how part of the website works.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
- Measuring which pages are useful or need revision
- Routing a search request to the selected partner
- Operating the website and improving load performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Macon County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Macon County Circuit Clerk, the sheriff and police custodians, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Alabama Department of Corrections, and the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes. Information placed in a box is handled under that provider's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Alabama agencies, Macon County offices, courts, and outside services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy governs. Read those terms before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads. That processing is controlled by the advertising provider.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Advertising networks that serve ads
- Analytics vendors that measure visits and performance
- Search providers that receive a submitted query
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used for information handled by the site. No internet service can promise perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Information known to have been submitted by a minor will be deleted when identified.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on where a visitor lives and which law applies. Alabama's Open Records Act, Ala. Code § 36-12-40, governs access to public writings held by government custodians, not private website analytics. Alabama criminal-history dissemination is separately limited by Ala. Code §§ 41-9-642 and 41-9-643. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Object to or opt out of certain processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request a copy of personal data held about them
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version takes its place on this page and carries an updated effective date.
